Alterna Green$aver Improvement Loan FAQ

  1. What is the preferential interest rate?
    The Alterna Green$aver Improvement Loan will be provided to qualified clients at a variable prime rate.

  2. What is the loan amount I can receive?
    For Green$aver's residential clients, the minimum loan amount is $2,500 which will include the cost of the pre and post energy assessment(s) and/or retrofit work. For Green$aver's commercial clients, the minimum loan amount is $10,000.

  3. Can I use this loan for the ecoENERGY program?
    Yes. You can use this loan for all Green$aver energy assessments and retrofits, including the assessment and retrofits relevant to ecoENERGY.

  4. What retrofits can the loan be used for?
    The loan will be based on the unbiased recommendations specified in Green$aver's energy assessment. At minimum, the loan must cover the top two recommendations identified in the Green$aver assessment as the most cost-effective energy-efficient solutions. Given their expertise, any draft proofing and insulation retrofits should be done through Green$aver in order to qualify for the loan.

  5. Are there other contractors I must use for other work?
    Other than draft proofing and/or insulation retrofits with Green$aver, you can use any reputable contractor to implement the other retrofits recommended in the Green$aver energy assessment(s).

  6. Beyond the application what else is required?
    The Green$aver energy assessment workplan recommendation and estimate will be required in addition to your application.

  7. How long will the loan approval process take?
    For residential clients, the average loan approval time is within a week. For commercial clients, the loan approval time will vary between 2-3 weeks.

  8. Which Green$aver energy assessments help qualify me for the loan?
    All Green$aver energy assessments will help qualify you.

  9. Do I pay Green$aver directly or does Alterna?
    Residential clients will receive their full loan amount and will be expected to pay Green$aver and your other contractors directly. Commercial clients should contact Alterna directly to discuss the best options available.

  10. If I rent, am I eligible for this loan?
    For residential clients who rent, we are unable to provide the loan at this time. Commercial clients who lease their properties are eligible for this loan.

  11. If I have already had a Green$aver energy assessment, can I still apply for the loan.
    Yes. The application process remains the same.
