“After reaching our goal of 250,000 registrations, Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) stopped accepting new registrations into the federal grant program on January 28, 2012. The deadline to complete work remains March 31, 2012, however the deadline to obtain a post-retrofit evaluation for work completed by March 31, 2012, is now June 30, 2012. On July 13, 2011, the Government of Canada, through the Ministry of Natural Resources (NRCan) announced the renewal of its highly popular EcoENERGY Retrofit for Homes Program.

The Retrofit for Homes program will provide grants up to $5,000 to homeowners homeowners registered in the program making energy efficient improvements from now until March 31,2012 or for those who have registered or until the funds runs out .

Eligible home improvements include:

- Ceiling, wall, basement & crawl space insulation
- High efficiency furnaces
- Air conditioners
- Heat pumps and ventilation systems
- Energy Star windows and doors
- Domestic water heating equipment
- Low flush toilets

The complete grant table may be downloaded by clicking this link. If you previously participated in the ecoENERGY program in your current home but did not fully utilize the $5,000.00 grant, you may apply one more time for additional improvements under the program announced.

How to apply

Please follow the simple steps below to take advantage of the program:

  1. Register with NRCan to receive a Registration Number.  You should obtain your registration number as soon as possible.  NRCan will close off registrations without notice to the public once the funds are allocated – so register today!
    Registration is now closed. Please  visit the dates and deadlines page or the registration section of the Frequently-Asked Questions (FAQ) page on the NRCAN website for more details.  If you have already registered, then you must still complete your work and get it verified by a third party before March 31, 2012 and complete your post assessment by June 30, 2012.
  2. Schedule an ecoENERGY Assessment with one of GreenSavers’ Certified Energy Advisors.  The Assessment must be conducted prior to doing any work.
    NOTE:  If you had an ecoEnergy Assessment done in April 2007 or later, you do not need another assessment; but you still need an NRCan Registration Number.
  3. Complete the work before March 31, 2012 – but leave time for a follow-up assessment!
  4. Keep the receipts for any products or services purchased (receipts dated from June 6, 2011 onwards for products purchased but not installed until after your initial assessment are eligible for rebates).
  5. Schedule and complete a follow-up ecoENERGY Assessment and submit your grant application BEFORE MARCH 31, 2012  June 30 2012.
