A Rich History

History in the Community

Green$aver pioneered residential energy conservation in Ontario over 25 years ago and has a rich and successful history of performing and implementing both economically viable and environmentally friendly measures to help individuals and organizations with their energy needs. During the past 15 years alone, we have helped over 25,000 households in the Toronto area improve their home comfort, lower their energy bills and increase the resale value of their homes, while improving the environment and the world we live in.

Since 1991, Green$aver has been a leader for energy efficiency in the community:

  • A pilot of the City of Toronto Downspout Disconnect and Low-flow Toilet programs with homeowners
  • An early provider of the TAPS program with Enbridge Distribution.
  • A pioneer with the Toronto Atmospheric Fund, providing the first "Rewards" cash-back program for Toronto homeowners who improved the energy efficiency performance of their house.
  • A founding member of the Toronto Public Health department's 20/20 The Way to Clean Air program (www.toronto.ca/health/2020) to help people reduce their home and vehicle energy use by 20% each year.
  • Presenter to nearly 1000 local employers and community groups during "lunch & learn" and local events; an "eco-speaker" at municipal, provincial and federal Environmental Days, "Smog" summits and Renovation Forums.
  • An advocate working for more than 10 years with the Energy Action Council, the Toronto Environmental Alliance, (www.torontoenvironment.org) and the Toronto Renewable Energy Co-operative (www.windshare.ca) to see expertise in conservation issues and alternative energy sources put into action in homes throughout our city.
  • Coordinator of the assessment and improvement of 800 units of the Toronto Community Housing Corporation to increase the energy efficiency and comfort of low-income residents.
  • A contributor to the Clean Air Partnership and its Clean Air Consumer Guide (www.cleanairconsumerguide.com) that helps consumers save money and the environment by reducing personal energy use to combat smog and climate change.
  • The first delivery agent of the EnerGuide for Houses Program in Toronto when it was first initiated in 1998. A founding member of the Green Communities Association (www.gca.ca) of Ontario.
  • A partner of the Suzuki Foundation's Nature Challenge (www.davidsuzuki.org) that encourages individuals to reduce environmental impacts within their community.
  • A member of the community-based Low-income Energy Network committee.
  • A founding member of the Don Valley West One Tonne Challenge group to help Toronto citizens reduce their carbon dioxide emissions by one tonne per person per year to address climate change and improve our environment.
  • A founding member of the One Tonne T.O. group.
  • Partner in the Canada-China Environmental Cooperation Council One Tonne Challenge and Energy Efficiency Forums
  • A participant and speaker at the Ontario Government's Energy Forums to foster the "Culture of Conservation" that will reduce energy consumption by 5% by 2007.
